April 19 2023 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:25 ro 2:35 and there were six seals during her viewing session.
In the middle of LPB were RB12 Sadie and PO4. They were mostly in snooze mode during Marilyn's observation. She noted that PO4 is gaining weight.
RF34 Pus and PO3 were about 30 feet of the 2BS near middle cliff area. There were several nursing sessions. PO3 is putting on weight and seems to growing daily. Although Marilyn saw more of the pup today there still no determination of its gender.
Originally out on the rock flats near SRI were an Adult Female and an Adult Male. Later they moved up onto the sand in the direction of the 3BS.
A/F: adult size, light gray green female belly and two red tags. When she moved up on the sand her ventral side appeared to have more yellow.
A/M: adult size, darker gray male belly and unsure about tags.

Team R&B's first find was at the bay. Up on the rocks was the lovely RH76 Kala. She was alone today, at least while they were there.

Next stop at paradise cove there were two seal on the reef when they arrived. They were able to ID RH32 Kaale and RL08. RL08 had a visitor, so he galumphed to the right.  When the volunteer arrived, they left the site.

Since they were in the area they went over to secrets, where they found RG28 Lefty on shore. There were plenty people by him. Team R&B got out the signs and asked folks to move back from the seal. They were asked why and even with some education the people remained ignorant. So they called the hotline, and stayed.
Just before 1:00 as they were going to talk with the tourist standing next to RG28. Finally for them
back behind the signs. Then a second seal came charging in, it turned out to be RL08. He came up and stayed with RG28.
They called the hotline again and told them they needed to get a volunteer out there, and they were leaving the site.

At another west side location they spotted a seal galumphing to the rocks. The waves were hitting him and they were able to ID R3CX Nalu. The waves kept getting to him and pushing him around like
jello. He rolled over and and galumphed out of the area. It was good they got to see him before he left.

What better way to end their day that on their final stop of the day they found the adorable RQ24 Mauna. The waves were lapping at him, but he just stayed on the rocks. Little cutie.

Aloha Monk Seal Mania team!

My name is Kai and I am a 3rd grade teacher on Oʻahu! I was wondering if I might be able to get permission to copy some of your daily posts for my students to read! Unfortunately, blogs are blocked on their school devices. However, I would love for them to be able to learn from your amazing observations!

Would it be possible for me to copy a few posts to share with my students?

Me ke aloha nui,
Kumu Kai
