April 22, 2023 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Melody and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:20 to 2:05 and there were seven seals on island today.
On LPB were RB12 Sadie and PO4 who had a nursing session and some snoozing. The pup seems to be doing fine. They entered the water for a swim just as Marilyn was preparing to leave.
RF34 Pua and PO3 were swimming when Marilyn arrived. They hauled out about 12:26 and immediately went into a nursing session, even though the waves kept hitting the pup. Pua and PO3 finally moved up the beach. Pua is still looking good and PO3 is getting chubby.
On the rock flats about 30 feet of the 3BS was an Unknown Adult initially alone. The U/A was joined by an Adult Male. The A/M later moved in the Makapuu direction to join a Subadult Female. The U/A later moved off the rock flats and up the beach.
Unknown Adult: adult size, and two red tags, there was never a good enough view to determine gender.
Adult Male: large adult size, dark male belly and didn't seem to have tags.
Subadult Female: subadult to adult size, older coat with yellowish gray female belly and two red tags.

Melody went down to see Kaiwi RK96 and PO5 and it was nice to see that the crowds are not as bad as previous pupping events. The beach is pretty much closed except for a small place where swimmers and surfers can enter and exit the water.
When Melody arrive PO5 and Mom had just finished a nursing session. It was quite some time after for anything to happen. But PO5 was first to start climbing all over Mom, like on top of and around her. Kaiwi finally woke up and that is when PO5 started going out into the water. OF course that got Mama Kaiwi moving, especially when the pup seemed to go to far. She barked to get PO5 back, but finally they both entered the water, closing off the beach access.
DLNR is onsite, both on the beach and in the water on jet skis. Guess nobody is taking any chances after last years incident.
Mom and Pup headed out and at one point Melody noticed the pup was having a good time riding on mom's hind flipper.  When they hauled out by the Natatorium wall, Melody called it a day.

Team R&B were joined by junior sealette, and their first stop was at secrets. Today there were only humans and a wedding.
Then folks started running towards the water, a seal was coming in. Junior sealette ran and got the signs and they did their best to stop folks. The seal was RH32 Kaale who came up to shore, but then he turned around and left. They waited but he never came back, so they headed out.

At another west side location they found the lovely RH76 Kala at seal inlet.  She was alone and resting, she barely moved. She must have been tired because even when the waves came through.
They spotted another seal foraging off shore. They were able to ID RL08 who was foraging and never landed
Team R&B actually went back to see if RL08 ever hauled out, but he was still foraging. Wonder why he such a big boy.  And Miss Kala was still at seal inlet snoozing.
