July 4, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Happy Fourth of July, I hope you all got to enjoy the beaches and time with your loved one.
Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley, Marilyn and some video footage from the Na Pali coast from Nora Lewin.  Lesley's update is part two.

I was copied on an email sent to the PIFSC sighting email. Nora Lewin who is a zoologist was on a boat tour with her husband on Tuesday when they were fortunate enough to see a lone monk seal enjoying a puffer fish! Nora sent a couple of videos to share, which I always take great pleasure in doing!

Marilyn went to the pier today and after an hour and a half she did not see any seals on the island.

She did see one of the Masked Booby again. I am going to include photos Marilyn sent yesterday of Masked Booby and a chick.

Team Billand did lots of searching, beaches were crowded, and some folks out there camping.
They did see one seal at the outfall  just as they got there but no ID was made and they didn't get a good photo.
At 10:50 they finally find a seal at a west side location and they were able to ID Lei Ola RH48.
She was sleeping and then decided to move to another water hole to cool off.  She stayed there until their next visit.

Upon their next visit they find Lei Ola but she is moving about, and managed to poop twice, then galumphs off with the high tide. She looked to be going KoOlina Way, but they lost sight of her.
Team Billand called it a day at 2:30.

Team Billand was giving up on their search when they spotted a seal by Makua going up the rocks.
There was RL42 Leia, so they took a few photos and left the crowded area so no one would bother her.
