July 3, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Mrs, Whisperer Marilyn, and Team Billand. AND every daily in the blog is a result of our beloved DB.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from Makai Pier late this afternoon and spotted three seals on Island.
On the Rocky right Beach there were two critters:
UU (unknown/unknown) - subadult to adult size, 2 tags, Marilyn never saw the belly and saw no other distinguishing markers.
U/F (unknown/female) - subadult to adult size, 2 tags, female belly, very green.
We have a weaner. PO4 was definitely alone without Mom Sadie RB12 late yesterday. He was ID'd by juvenile size, coloration and male belly.
Marilyn and a couple of close posse had a small celebration on Makai Pier in remembrance of DB this afternoon. Just as they were toasting him, 4 marine helicopters flew near Rabbit Island. "How did they know to do a flyover for DB?"  I personally wish I was there to experience this with them.

Team Billand found Pohaku Ro28 at KoOlina at 7 am this morning. She is looking quite healthy and fat. There were signs and ropes up in a small zone. They called the hotline.
They stayed to educate all those who came, and met the Paddle Board instructor Neil who was very good tell his people to stay away from Pohaku.
They caught up with Sue and Sam who were volunteers once upon a time, They were helpful in keeping folks back too.
When Pohaku turned over they noticed a new injury on her mid back. There is a large cookie cutter bite very fresh.
Team Billand left at 8:30 when a volunteer arrived.

Team Billand arrived at a west side location this morning at 9:30 and from Kalani RN14 in a water hole sleeping. To his right was Lei Ola RH48 out on her back and snoring in peace. Team Billand stuck around thinking another might arrive, but none did so they moved on.

On a recheck just before 2 pm both seals were still there. Lei Ola was in the play boy pond ( and note she is the first female known to visit the pond).
RN14 Kalani is now way up on high rocks, but waves washed him off and he headed towards to Lei Ola. He sneaks up on her, she is startled, tossing her hind flippers at him. He begins to "moo" he so loud but she is not interested. They get into a spat, Lei Ola slaps him, he settles and rests his head on her tummy.
He doesn't leave well enough alone, and begins to whoop at her, and she slaps him again, he enteres the play boy pond to get closer, she moves to the left, he follows.  Well who knows if it's some type of seal foreplay, but Lei Ola made a very large poop and entered the shallows. This seem to excite RN14 and he follows her and they kept fighting and slapping. This continues on and on, to the point where Team Billand had to call it a day.
