Team Billand was out before 6 am searching for Miss Pohaku. On their way around they spotted a seal moving on the rocks at one of the west side locations. When they got a good look they were able to ID RL42 Leia. She was active and moving about almost like she was hiding. She came up and stopped at the rocks below watching. She is 100% molted and looking healthy.
They left to continue their search.
When they came back later to see but she was gone from this site. Team Billand did find her at another location on a small patch of sand, well hidden. They left to keep her safe.
At 7:45 am they found RG28 was spotted at a west side location, resting on the rocks alone.
Team Billand found both Kekoa RK72 and Lei Ola RH48 at 8:25 am. They were both already up on lower rocks enjoying the sun. The waves were building, so Team Billand head out with plans to return.
When they returned at 2:15 Kekoa and Leia were still hauled out. Now there was another seal and they were about to ID Kawena RH36. (so happy to hear this, Marilyn and I were talking about her this afternoon). Kawena was to the right, snuggled against the rocks, looking green but healthy. Her tag was showing.
To her right was Kekoa and Lei Ola. All three seals were getting it from the rough surf, water covering them, but they all stayed. Kekoa was busy keeping his eye on both girls, vocalizing when he got hit and turned around. He landed up against Lei Ola who barked at him, he stay back of her, but poking his nose to her belly. She barked at him again.
Team Billand left, so they would go unnoticed especially since they were quite a ways inland.
Marilyn and I spend just under 2 hours at the pier today. We saw two seals and the masked booby with it's chick.
PO4 Weaner was at the middle cliff area. He did not move much other than rolling over. He was ID'd by his weaner size, no tags and white male belly.
Seal #2 is reported as an UM a male belly, older coat but a lighter color belly with tags. We had a couple of guesses who it could be but without any clear markings. Hopefully he'll be there when the NOAA Team can get out there and apply some bleaches.
We were able to get a couple of photos the Masked Booby and chick. Very cool looking birds, I am still amazed Marilyn spotted them, me I haven't a clue.
Gayle sent a couple of photos of seal doing a swim by at Kaupo. Is it the same critter who was on Rabbit Island? Only they know.
