July 25, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team Billand and Melody. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Team Billand once again were out bright and early. Upon arrival Momma Pohaku RO28 and PO5 Nanea were on shore snoozing. The herons were out on the shore and bugging Mom and Pup at times. Staring at them being just a few feet away. Pohaku wasn't having it and would get mad barking at the birds, and then Nanea chased the other bird up on the rocks and barking.

Nanea had lots of feeding sessions today, and Mom and pup went further out for a swim. Although Team Billand was happy to see this on day 6, it was boring without them. Finally they turned around and came back to their zone.

Mom presented to Nanea to nurse, but the pup just took off on her own heading to the small cove by the rocks. ( huh ???? ) Pup was gone, hard to see and Pohaku went nuts, from 0 - 60 looking for Nanea and found her in the cove. She was not happy with her kid, they kissed and went on exploring the area. All this and the little bugger is on 6 days old.

Team Billand asked one of the workers if there was an outlet in the little cove? No, it's all surrounded with the reef, got plenty crabs. LOL so that's what getting this kids attention, the crabs. But wait a minute it doesn't have any teeth yet!

Team Billand left aroung noon to check on the other seals. They returned at 3 pm and Nanea was enjoying another feed, followed by a snooze with Mom. Team Billand stayed for another hour and called it a day.

While Team Billand was with Pohaku and Nanea, they got a call from a friend there was a small seal at a close by beach. They left to check it out. At the site there were people there, and they were informed the seal was RH92. Team Billand called the hotline.

They hung around to educate as many people they could, but left to help out at the pupping site.

Then a second call while at the pupping site came just before 9 am that there was a second seal with RH92. They went around to check it out and this time they found good ole' Benny with RH92. It didn't take Benny long before he tried to get to her, and she fought back. Once again they stuck around to educated and they called the hotline. Once again they left and went back to the pup site.

Later in the day they checked the west side location and found Ka'ale RH32 . He was alone and way up in the inside area well hidden.

Melody also visiting with Pohaku and Nanea today. She spent time with Team Billand on site while the herons came to visit mom and pup.
Melody also went to see Benny and RH92 and got some video to share with us. Thank you Melody.
