10/24/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Update

What a busy and fun day out here @ Ka'ena Pt State Park !  Sunny & breeze, 5 seals

I started early to get ready for the group, then I did a CE to gate check and lots of the usual outreach with fishermen, campers and dog owners - before all arrived.

In the seal world, the star of our outreach was little RK88 “Puna” @10 Mnts Beach. We talked about his hooking and de-hooking experience and how he’s looking nice and healthy.
In the NARS we saw RO40 "Ka'ena" in his pool, R330 Squinty on the Runway, RW02 PVKauai on the outer reefs of the Main Pool and on Back Beach a 10 % molted RR70 "RIP". It's hard to say when he started his molt so it may be D3 or D4. We saw him last Saturday and he was still in a pre-molt behavior.

I'll check the front at sunset perhaps one of the girls may show up. More tomorrow ๐ŸŒบ
