10/19/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Update

Tammy and I had an early start this morning.
We checked Birth Beach / Tables and found R303 "BG" - it was taking us a while to confirm her ID, but she gently turned around and showed us her bellie. She was getting ready to enter the water after an overnight.
Later in the afternoon I found her a little past Camp Erdman Pt.

From BB we saw a seal inform of Lyman's - we checked and IDed RN58 "Luana".
We checked every nook and crevices all the way into the NARS.

R330 "Squinty" was on the Runway
RR70 "RIP" & RH48 "Lei Ola" were on Back Beach. "RIP" entered the water, waited a while for "Lei Ola" but she wasn't up for it so he left. A while later some visitors told me there was a seal in the Main Pool. It was "RIP" he spent the rest of the morning into the afternoon there.
"Lei Ola" left Back Beach in the early afternoon.

Tammy went to get something in the Polaris and do some outreach, on her way back she spotted RO40 "Ka'ena" in his pool and told that her hikers mentioned seeing a seal on a small sand beach.

On our way out we did the checking of all haul out spots - we spotted RK88 "Puna" in a sandy corner of The Ponds. It's his first sighting since being de-hooked. He's looking great.
More tomorrow ðŸŒº
