In the yesterday's news department Vicki sent a couple of photos from the north shore. (actually they were photos from Friday) She came across a U/U at the beach where we use to find "right spot" Vicki was unable to get a positive ID.
She also found Holokai and Kaimana hanging out together. Holokai is looking very green these days but still shows the patch mark from his sat tag.
Team Billand checked the outfall at the crack of dawn. They watched two seal forage outside of the outfall. They were able to ID Ka'ale but the other seal was reported as a UU.
Next stop for Team Billand was out at Plains. There they found RO28 Pohaku high up by one of the cabins. There were lots of people there fro a "leadership session" . Team Billand had no signs but were able to talk with the person in charge and got them on board about giving Pohaku space. They called the hotline to report.
Back on the west side Team Billand found RIP RR70 resting on the lower rocks and his tags were showing.
At another west side stop they found Lei Ola RH48. She was resting alone on the rocks. She is looking quite healthy, tags showing and the pesky hook.
Team Billand did the Ka'ena West trek and at the 20 they found a seal the looks to be newly molted, but wasn't showing their tags. They were unable to make and ID so it was reported as a UU.
Marilyn was at the pier today and found four critters on this beautiful sunny Sunday. At left point beach there was:
UM - unknown adult male with a newer coat.
UJ unknown juvenile about 25 feet right of the UM. There were tags but she never got to see the belly.
In front of the 3BS:
RK38 Hali'a wearner size, two tags. Marilyn not see a natural bleach on the left rear side so determined it was RK38.
Another seal hauled out about 40 feet towards SRI from the 3BS. This seal was larger than RK38 but still juvenile size, fairly new coat and male belly. Her guess is RJ06 Aka.
While Marilyn was at the pier she checked Kaupo Beach Park and spotted a seal, so on the way home she checked. There was R1KT who appears to be 90% molted. He was ID'd by both 1KT and T37 tags. There was an SRA up, but no one around.
Marilyn also bumped into posse pal Paul H. and he mentioned a small seal in the water by Eternity Beach on his first dive. Paul also mentioned he saw RW22 Kolohe off Lanai Lookout on Saturday.
