Team Billand arrived at Paradise Cove at 5:15 this morning. They spotted a blimp in the dark and were able to confirm Benny RE74 later once they got a good look at their photos. They called the hotline and set up a zone for Benny. At 6 am Benny slid down into the water and left the site. They weren't able to get a good look at his body condition since it was too dark.
Team Billand checked the outfall, and their fisher buddies told them there were two seals but they left the are by 7 am. So Team Billand headed out to some of the nearby haul outs. Once they approached the area they heard a seal vocalizing. They ran over to see "Fat Boy" Kaale RH32 mouthing off. Then they noticed RK72 Kekoa with him in the shallows, just chilling. Kaale wouldn't be quiet and he even slapped the water. Someone was having a temper tantrum.
In the end Kekoa left the site about a half hour later, and grumpy Kaale stayed by himself.
They did not find any other critters today, but they did see the coast guard in action.
Marilyn stopped by the blow hole on her way home this afternoon. She spotted RW22 Kolohe on the rocks in the middle of the Blow Hole Cove - Eternity Beach. Volunteers were on side providing outreach. Marilyn did not make the hike down but did spend time talking with folks at the overview. Marilyn noted they could hear his sneezes clear up in the parking lot.... LOL wish we had a recording of that!
