10-29-2013 DB's Dailies: Kaiwi,Aukai,Kolohe&Duke@RI, Kea@SB, M&M,Kermit@WP, Pohaku@Secrets, UW@Kewalo, Benny@KCG, Irma@IRQ, Right Spot@MCBH

Though the day began dark & early as usual, it would be 0702 before I encountered my first critter. It was Kaiwi (RK96) snoozin’ at 3BS on Rabbit Island.

At 0719 on a pan I found Aukai (RL12) just hauling out to 2BS, on RI.

When I got back to Makai Pier at 0943 I found Kolohe (RW22) along side Aukai at 2BS.

At 1028 Duke (RA12) would haul out to 2BS. He and Kolohe had words and at 1043 Duke returned to the water.

On a pan I had noticed that Kaiwi was no longer visible at 3BS, and shortly after Duke entered the water I became aware of "swimming heads" playing just off shore of 2BS. It would prove to be Duke & Kaiwi.

On a pan at 1148 I noticed that Kolohe & Aukai were no longer visible at 2BS.

At 1200 Duke, Kaiwi & Aukai hauled out to the mid Middle Cliff area.

On a pan at 1223 I found Kolohe on the left end rock flats.

Team Billand called at 0655 with the report of M&M (R020) at #1707 White Plains. I got late word from Barbara that cabin people told them that what proved to be Kermit stopped by for a short visit with M&M. Barbara confirmed the ID by their photos.

At 1246 they reported Pohaku (RO28) at Secret Beach, KoOlina.

Fisherman posse member Bob called at 1420 to advise of having seen "a baby seal" swim into Kewalo Basin 10-15 minutes ago. I called Tracy, and amazingly she was able to contact Michelle (da’ vet) at the lab at Kewalos and she found the critter but could only say that it was a weaner pup with 2 red tags. U’ilani would be at the top of my possibles list but ????????????
At 1515 I found Kea (RN46) on the sewer outfall at the east end of Sandy Beach. I cordoned him off. He decided to enter the water at 1620, but lolled in the shallows moving 30 ft or so more to the west. Gayle and I managed to keep the hordes at bay and kept moving the ropes back. Finally at 1654 he moved out and east.
Gayle & I went to Crappy Cove after picking the stuff up, and sure enough at 1711 we found him foraging off shore. At 1730 he hauled out to his usual rocks, and we cordoned him off. He remains at dark.

At 1500 Team Billand reported Benny (RE74) at KCG.

They called again at 1616 to advise that Clay had called them with the report of Irma (R010) at IRQ.

Jen Christian called at 1705 to advise that hubby Jeff had seen Right Spot (R016) at North Beach, and got photos.
