Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from about 12:30 to 2:15 and it was a weaner day!
When she started viewing only weaner PO4 was visible. She was about 80 feet from the 1BS. She nudged some rocks and snoozed. She also was very cooperative giving full view of her female belly and then turned onto her belly and galumphed up the beach.
Weaner PO3 hauled out at mid center of Middle Cliff about 1:15 pm. Apparently she had recently eatensomething and seemed to be trying to get it out of her mouth or swallow it. As with most weaners it was probably a sea cucumber that exploded. PO3 snoozed for a while and then went back into the water.
Its going to be interesting when NOAA heads out to tag these two. Lets hope they stay on their side of the island.
Team R&B started their day watching a pod of dolphins playing. ITs been a while so it was a real treat
Next at the bay they were waiting for critters to show up and they were ready to give up. As they were walking out they spotted three seals in the water all coming in at the same time.
Next was RL20 Kalua looking very green. Seeing him today made them think he was the seal stealing fish in the net the other day.
Next they headed over to paradise cove and found Aukai Rl2 and Lefty RG28. Security put the signs up but no ropes. One of the beachgoers said the seals came in about 9:30 and he called it in, but no one came. He was very interested in who Team R&B were and how they knew things. So they explained.
There were lots of tourists on the beach Team R&B moved the signs away from the seals as the tide was rising and they both moved up. They called the hotline and left for the day.
At another west side location they found one of their favorite green kids, RP30 Puka. The waves started to cover the area, hitting him, but he fought to stay. However in the end the waves got the best of him and he left and they called it a day.
Melody went to Kaimana Beach to check in on Kaiwi RK96 and PO5 (Pualani) this morning. She heard from folks there had been another seal visiting the past few days. Melody also got a text this morning that the seal visiting was Kaiwi's 2018 pup RK24 Wawamalu or as I call him Bruno. Seems he had been around left during the evening and came back at first light this morning.
RK24 was staying very close to PO5 Pualani and at times too close when Mom Kaiwi would intervene and momma didn't hold back.
Melody was there for several hours watching all the interaction, playing at moments in the shallows. Lets hope RK24 respects the boundaries of his little sister. Melody headed out around lunch time.
