Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:27 to 1:27 and there were a total of three seals. Initially when she first started viewing only the two weaners were on island.
Apparently RB12 Sadie has weaned her pup PO4. Sadie stayed between 43 to 44 days. PO4 was on LPB about 30 feet of 1BS.
About 40 feet of the 3BS was weaner PO3. She was initially by herself and entered the water about 11:54.
At some point while she was in the water she encountered another seal and they hauled out near the 3BS at 12:22 pm.
The new arrival was an Adult Female: lighter female belly and two red tags. The A/F and PO3 briefly cuddled, but some fledging or injured birds drew the attention of the A/F. She galumphed toward them and PO3 close behind. They entered the water about 12:45 and Marilyn lost track of them.
About 15 minutes later, Marilyn believes the same A/F hauled out near 1BS to join PO$. They interacted some and PO4 nosed the A/F''s belly, but then moved away and went into snooze mode.
Team R&B got a late start today and first stop was at the bay. There was a seal on the rocks that looked like it just hauled out. It was RM31 Kai who was very alert. They looked for another seal but didn't see any, however the akule boats were out laying nets. There were two seals in the nets one was very green and the other seemed to have a clean coat. No IDs could be made.
As a side note they did see a fishing line stuck on the rocks. The swivel and lead with plastic lure were visible, but the line was going towards the Kai's body. He moved higher in and the line was still under his body on the left side. He seemed unbothered and relaxing.
Next stop had signs up when they arrived. The seals were way to the waianae side of the cove on shore snoozing. They moved the signs a little better and called the hotline.
The two seals were Aukai RL12 and Kaale RH32. It appears Kaale has fishing line on hind flippers.
Team R&B were worried about the seals at the bay with the nets out in the water. When they got there the boats were just leaving. RM31 Kai remained on the concrete block snoozing. They waited to see if any other seals would arrive. To their delight one did, it was the clean coat seal RL70 Leina.
She sneaked up to RM31 and they greeted each other nicely. Then they both galumphed up over the rocks to the coral and went into rest mode.
On another subject first there were 5 and now there are 7. At the beginning of the month May 3rd PO6 was discovered with mom RL42 and on May 6th Luana RN58 gave birth to PO7.
Wonder how many more pups there will be?
