Melody went to visit Right Spot R016 and Lahiwa PO9 today. When she first arrived they were already in the water for a very long swim. They hauled out and mom nursed PO9 for what seemed like forever, then it was snooze time. Melody went to check around for a bit, and when she got back they were just waking up. Mom and pup headed out for another long swim. Today is day 36 according to the volunteer on site.
Team T&D hiked out to Kaena point today. Their first find was a surprise. Mauna RQ24 is back fromhis visit to the west side.
They only had two other seals, RG32 and RW02 PvKauai. Lefty was at back beach, swam over to the main pool and had some words with RW02. RW02 lost the squabble and left.
Along with the seals they saw the big female honu "Lady" along with a wedge-tailed shearwater chick. and a ulili with its lunch.
Team R&B first find of the day was RM31 Kai. He was on the rocks and looked as though he had just got there. They stayed for a bit looking out over the ocean for any other arrivals, but there were none.
They did a lot of searching and was coming up empty, so they did the Kaena west trek. Finally after drinking lots of water in the heat they found Kaale RH32. He was on the rocks, very alert looking around the pond that he went into. Team R&B looked around but didn't see anything else. Just Kaale, who went back to the rocks where he had originally hauled out. Now he was relaxing again.
After their Kaena west trek they were passing an area where they saw folks walking along the road. That's when they got a glimpse of a tail, so they immediately pulled over. They ran pass the people and there on the rocks was little RP30 Puka, fast a sleep. They took a couple of pictures and for out of there so no one would notice him.
