09/02/2022 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn forwarded a link to NOAA's Hawaiian monk seal updates: (Lots of news )

Marilyn also viewed Rabbit Island from 1:40 to 3:10 today and initially there were none. Then about 2:00 she became aware of weaner RQ44 Mahina hauling out among waterfront rocks between 1BS and 2BS. She was ID'd by her weaner size and shape, three rear flipper tags and N1 applied bleach.  She appears to be doing just fine.

Team R&B first sighting was two seals on shore. There was RG28 Lefty with the lovely RL12 Aukai. They called the hotline to report. Along with the two seals they saw some dolphins.

At another west side location they found the brothers P30 Puka and M31 Kai.  They were not together, Puka was on the rocks inland.  Once again they saw dolphins.

Arriving at another site they spotted a big seal in a small pond. They ID'd R3CX Nalu.
Just around the corner there were two females. They ID'd RL42 and RL70.

If that wasn't enough they did a fast hike to Kaena West and to their surprise and delight they found a chubby little guy on the rocks. He was alone and perfectly fine, there was RQ24 Mauna!
Further into the journey they found two more seals together in a pond snoozing.
Right away they knew the female was RL74 Kami, but the male they weren't sure. Based on inquiries they believe the male is Ka'ena RO40.  Kami's tags were visible but they couldn't see the tags of the male, but two line scars on the right of his head and a small white spot. (We shall see)
