09/24/2022 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕  (FYI - Marilyn hasn't been reporting since she has been working on a project at work, even though she retired :-)

They started their day at the bay with RH76 Kala. She once again made it difficult to get a decent photo of her, but they waited for her to move. She was way up just about five feet from the camp site. She eventually moved down. Since she wasn't cooperating they left for now.
Upon a recheck, she was still on the rocks basking in the sun. They
also found Nalu R3CX, resting in the pond. They did not see him earlier.

Team R&B got word of a seal at secrets and a fisher was really close, so they hurried over. Upon arrival they saw Lefty RG28 and RL12 Aukai together mid beach. There were footprints and trails on the sand that let up to the seals. They put out the signs and called the hotline. Spent time educating folks that came by.
Then RH32 Kaale arrived and came near Lefty and Aukai, so an argument broke out. Kaale RH32 went over to the Waianae side of the cove near the rocks and stayed there. A volunteer arrived about 10 am, so they left.
The dolphins were out some of them leaping completely out of the water.

At another west side location they first spotted two seals on the sand way inland. It was RM31 Kai and RG32. When RM31 went to move to the water, RG32 went after him. Kai took off over the rocks, and more rocks, and RG32 chased him into the water. They argued a bit and Kai made his way to the water, then to seal inlet. RG32 followed him.
Then the sweetest thing happened, the two of them settled down and Kai put his fore flipper on top of G32 as if to say, I'm tired dude, lets just rest. But RG32 wasn't finished and went after Kai again to the right. Finally they both settled down as if they were best buds.

Lastly they made the Kaena west trek on this hot humid day. They were glad they did because they found RQ24 Mauna. He was alone and snoozing on the rocks. He's looking pretty dam cute and fat.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 3 to 4:05 and there were six seals on island today.
At mid LPB were two seals:
Adult Male: adult size, at least one red tag and molting male belly. It appears that most of the ventreal side is molted and partly up the sides, about 60%
Nearby was an Unknown Subadult: subadult size, older coat with greenish belly and at least one tag.

Nearer to the 1BS was an Unknown Juvenile: new coat, light belly and no tags. While viewing this seal Marilyn became aware of two snorkelers on the beach fairly close to the U/J.  It was very aware of their presence but didn't seem spooked. After the snorkelers reentered the water the UJ headed up into the dunes in front of the 1BS.

Near the 3BS were three seals about 10-15 feet apart from each other.
Subadult Female: subadult size, newer coat, light female belly and two tags.
Subadult Male: subadult to adult size, older coat with lots of dark green, fairly dark male belly and two tags.
Unknown Subadult #2: Subadult size, newer coat, two red tags.
