Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:17 to 2:48 and there were four seals on island.
On the Lanikai side of LPB were:
Adult Male: adult size, older coat, greenish tan male belly and at least one tag. Marilyn believes this to be RK24 but she never got a good view of his right side to confirm.
Unknown Subadult: subadult to adult size, new coat, at least one red tag. She never got a good look at ventral side so gender is unknown, although she is guessing it was a female and possibly RK37.
Toward the 1BS was a Juvenile Female: larger juvenile size, older coat, female belly and no tags. Marilyn thinks it is the same JF she reported by the 3BS yesterday.
Close to the 1BS was weaner RQ44 Mahina. Her light female belly and her three rear flipper tags.
Marilyn got word that Right Spot R016 was in the neighborhood, so on her way home she went looking. She found Right Spot was on the rock flats. A volunteer was on site. Right spot looks good for just having weaned her pup about a week ago. She was resting peacefully.
Team R&B started their day at a west side location. They saw a female seal and really studied her for a while. Then they recognized a behavior they had seen before. When the water touched her tail area she would lift her hind flippers up high. It was RH48 Lei Ola !!! They were so happy to see her since its been a long time since she was on the west side with them. She is looking big and beautiful.
Next they arrived at secrets to find lots of people and signs up from yesterday. And yes there were twoseals on shore. There was Aukai RL12 and Kaale RH32 still hanging out together. They called the hotline.
Team R&B stood by talking to tourist and others, of course there was that one person who had to pass the signs for a closer picture, they got her out of the the area. They explained not to get too close and the usual Hawaiian monk seal 101.
Aukai is about 50% molted with a nice clean belly. When the volunteer arrived Team R&B left the site.
At another westside site they found a fat male on the rocks. It was RG32 and he looks like he has some pounds on him. He was still on the rocks and snoozing when they passed by later taking junior sealette home.
From afar they saw two big seals on shore sleeping. They went to check it out but did not go close, the male was very alert and went to the water to cool off and then back to the female. They ID'd RL42 and RN14, who is looking a little grubby.
On the other side of the area they found RL20 Kalua snoozing alone on the rocks.
They made the very hot humid hike out to Kaena west. They found a very green seal, RP30 Puka. He was all alone and glistening in the hot sun.
They were treated to a beautiful sunset on the way home.
