I observed Rabbit Island today between noon and 1:45 and there were two seals on island during my observation.
Unknown Subadult to Adult hauled out on the shoreline by the 3rd blue sign. This seal had two tags and did not show my its belly.
Unknown Adult tucked away in the tide pool, Makapuu side of the island. This seal disappeared about an hour into my stay.
About 1:15 a seal hauled out next to the unknown subadult, I assume it was the same critter that had been in the tide pool. I did see tags on the seal at this time, but there was nothing else to give me anymore information.
At another west side location they first spotted a seal on the rocks. It was RM31 Kai snoozing. They couldn't wait to see his lip, but he was resting just fine. They think he might have spent the night.
As they were going back they noticed a seal in the rocks. Closer look it was RP84 Pe'ekai, of course they were happy to see him.
Next stop they found the punk all alone on the rocks. RH32 Kaale is one fat bum bucha! He is a crazy seal, always ready to stir things up with the other seals. He's probably plotting his next move.
Lastly they spotted a seal on shore from afar. They had no clue who it could be so they went to investigate. They were thrilled to find KG54 Huakai, but there were dogs that kept barking. Team R&B left the area to keep the dogs away. Huakai is looking healthy and gained weight since they last saw her.
Melody got a text mid afternoon of two seals on the west side, at her old stomping ground. Since shehadn't been there in a while she was hoping one of the seals was Rocky. She was able to determine the male was Kalani RN14 by his applied bleach. The other seal was a large female and Melody took her time really checking for markings or the lack there of. She ruled out Aukai since there was no scar on her forehead. And then she saw Rocky's scar on her right chest about her nipple area. Long time no see Rocky Girl!
Melody stayed until 6 pm and they were still there. Both had moved further up the sand and Rocky was headed for the morning glories.
