02/28/2022 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:50 to 3:25 and there were a total of two seals today.
For the first hour and half Marilyn only saw one seal between the 3BS and SRI.
RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno: subadult size, light grayish yellow male belly, two tags and a scar on the right side about 1/3 forward from the rear flippers.
At 2:20 a second seal hauled out near RK24 and he immediately reacted. The newcomer was RK37 Hui'a: subadult size, light yellowish gray female belly, two tags and her wonderful nb on her lower left side.
There were lots of interaction between the two seals and they moved around each other for awhile before Bruno moved down to the waterfront rocks and went into snooze mode.
How wonderful to have both seals ID'd, Marilyn ya done good!  And both kids will be turning four this year.

Team R&B started at a west side location where they found RL08. He had just landed on lower rocks when they got there. His bump on his rump was visible and looks to be the same size. His cc scars and white digit on right fore flipper was also visible.

From there they were checking another site and got a call of a seal on shore at p. cove. They walked over to find Aukai RL12 on shore, snoozing with lots of people in the area. A zone with pvc pipes and a few signs were up per one of the workers.  As they were observing Aukai, they heard a loud cry "OUCH"!  They saw a young boy limping out of the water. As he got to shore, they recognized him as one of the kids they met last week. They saw that he was upset with fear in his eyes. The poor kidd was bitten by a sea turtle while in the water.  Team R&B looked at his leg, red and blue circle on his calf. They spoke to his parents and told them to make sure the wound was cleaned out with lots of soap and water. They explained that turtles carry bacteria and it could get infected. Scary stuff.  Another woman close by told the boy she had got a bite last week, while standing in the shallow water. She also had a circle bruise on her calf.
They called the hotline and let them know about Aukai. They waited around and educated folks to give the seal some space. The usual some people listened and others did not.

Team R&B went back to the other location and waited forever for a seal to show up. Finally at 11 am they saw Kekoa Alii RK72 foraging off the rocks to the left. Then at 12:17 RK72 went straight to the rocks and hauled up. He looked fat and full.  They called the hotline and left the site shortly after.

Going full circle and going back to their first stop, they found chubby RP84 Pe'ekai. He was alone snoozing at the seal inlet area. At one point he was stretching, rolling to his side and accidently rolled to far and fell into the hole. Awwww!  After that all they could see was his face.
RL08 was still there in the water hole. After a bit he popped out on the rocks.
