Team R&B initially was coming up empty, no seals to be seen. They hunkered down at one location and waited. They met a couple from Washington (Kerry & Carmen) who were leaving the islands today. They really wanted to see a monk seal before they left.
Finally Kekoa Alii RK72 did not disappoint, he came in and headed right to the rocks. Needless to say the couple from Washington was thrilled. Team R&B headed out and Melody arrived to take over.
At another west side location there was a seal on the rocks. They were trying to get an ID, and having a hard time recognizing one particular critter. They contacted Melina who came over and they ID'd RL08/RL09. This is a Kauai kid born in 2019 to RB00. She nursed this pup for 51 days. Our pal Val on Kauai, nicknamed "Bam Bam Square Pants" he was so big. They noted a cc scar under belly, cc scar on left fore flipper, and cc scar on lower back. He is robust and healthy looking.
Lefty RG28 was with RL08 and seemed to be a little possessive of him. He stayed with him in the pond.
Team R&B were thrilled to once again find the little male Pe'ekai RP84. He was snoozing on the rocks, moving around to cool off. He continues to hide in the rocks keeping himself safe.
Then they spotted another seal hauled up on high rocks. There was RL20 Kalua settle right where he hauled out.
At another location they spotted little RM31 Kai on shore. A womanon the beach said there were two seals. Team R&B moved a bit forward and there on the sand and rocks was R3CX Nalu. His natural bleach on his face was visible.
Last seal of the day at another location, was another little guy. Snuggled in the rocks well hidden was RP30 Puka. His tag and bleach were visible. Funny how all the kids were on the west side today.
