02/23/2022 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕.
I got an email from Deborah B, she sent photos of seals she saw at Ka'ena Point today. She reported five seals.  I will post pictures but I have no details on who the seals were, if they were male or female or if any had tags.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 10:35 to 12:20 and there were only two seals on island today.
Initially she only saw one seal near waterfront rocks about 40 feet Makapuu side of 3BS. Marilyn thinks this was RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno based on subadult size, lighter male belly, two tags and possibly a scar on his right side.
There were a number of seal trails from the beach up into the dunes near the 3BS, so Marilyn kept an close eye. At 10:43 Marilyn saw a seal's head appear among the morning glory in the dunes.  The seal made her way down to RK24. Marilyn reported the seal as a S/F: juvenile to subadult size, yellowish female belly and two red tags. She approached and touched RK24 and there was some interaction between them. RK24 did rest his head on her belly for awhile. She then moved onto the waterfront rocks and later she moved up onto the sand.

First stop for Team R&B they were watching a boat pulling up their nets. That's when they spotted their mystery seal passing by again. This is the 3rd day in a row and they still couldn't get an ID.  The seal postured looking at the fishing boat.

When they arrived at their next stop they heard a commotion, they saw two seals trying to haul out and folks along the water line taking photos.  They called out for them to move back and give the seals some room.  One woman moved just a matter of feet and asked is this far enough?  No move further back so the seals can come out of the water.  She did and they went to get signs. Seals went to the rocks, Kekoa Alii RK72 landed, but then moved off. RN14 Kalani and Kekoa Alii played near shore, then further out and then they were gone. Team R&B waited for three hours, but they never came back.

Team R&B arrived at their next destination and as luck would have it there was RN14 and RK72
resting on the rocks together. Good they found a spot to relax without people getting close.

They spotted a seal on shore at tracks from afar. They got to the site to fins Kaale RH32 snoozing away. A very nice woman put sticks around and found signs to put up. Team R&B were very appreciative to get the support.

Team R&B went to another west side location they saw two seals on rocks today. They were both snoozing. RW02 PvKauai was mid rocks and moved farther in hiding.  RP84 Pe'ekai was to the right of seal inlet also well hidden.

They made another stop and got to watch the whales put on a show. They noticed a little seal snoozing all alone on the rocks. After looking the little one over they ID'd Puka RP30.

Their last stop was at the bay where they found Nalu R3CX. He was alone snoozing, he was very dry so was probably there for a while.
