Lesley's Ka'ena Update for the last couple of weeks is part 3, check it out lots of sightings. Part two of the dailies is Team T&D update from Molokai.
Diane, Marilyn, friend Philemon met up with Lesley today at Ka'ena Point. They had a four seal day. Marilyn did let me know she did not view Rabbit Island today since they had a long day at the point.
I'm not sure what order they were seen but the four critters were RO40 Ka'ena, RH48 Lei Ola, RG40 Holokai and RN58 Luana.
Team R&B started their day at one of the busier beaches. When they arrived there was one seal on shore. It was RG28 Lefty who looked like he just arrived, so they got some signs up. Then they spotted two people coming from the other side, and although Team R&B tried warning them they got closer and closer. The guy stopped to take a photo a little too close and Lefty postured and made a really loud bark. The guy ran to the other end then came around in front of the seal. (REALLY???)
The woman showed them a seal at the other beach, so they hurried over and there was Benny ! He was high up by the tree. Team R&B went looking for signs but they were gone. They spoke with security who was watching over Benny, when another worker came by with pvc pope and rope to make a zone. Team R&B called the hotline and waited with Benny. Spent time education folks and getting them to give the seal some space. At 11:02 a volunteer arrived with signs ! Team R&B left the site relieved that someone was there to keep watch.
Later they went back to check if any other seals were on shore. Theyfound RG28 Lefty, Kekoa Alii RK72. Once again they got the signs and stayed until posse pal Amy came to take over. The seals were heading higher and higher up the beach due to the surf, there were some big waves.
There were lots of people out today. Team R&B spotted another seal on shore at another site. They headed over and found RH32 Kaale in a zone made of sticks and a sign per the posse.
At another west side location they found RP84 Pe'ekai up inland. He was snoozing all the way up and well hidden and safe from the pounding surf.
Also RW02 PvKauai was on lower rocks and taking a hit from the surf.
Next stop at the bay on front rocks to the right was Nalu R3CX. He was snoozing and just fine. His N6 applied bleach was visible.
Left side was RL20 Kalua snoozing on the rocks. His natural bleach was visible as well as his bump.
Last stop right at the entrance to the beach was RL42 Leia. They carefully walked to the other side to see if there were any other critters, but she was solo today, just lots of people. They heard Leia barking and turned to see a couple of guys right at her. They hurried over but the boys left. So disappointing that people continue to bother the seals. Team R&B called it a day and went to see their beautiful new grandson 💙
