Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:00 to 1:55 and todays viewing from inside the hallway. Waves were high and after yesterdays soaking Marilyn played it safe today. There were six seal on island today, starting with five and one late arrival.
On the beach near the 1BS were two seals: Seal 1 - sub-adult size, light female belly and two tags. There was a NB on the lower left side closer to rear. The NB plus female belly, and size of the seal leads to an ID of RK37 Huia. (Sadie's daughter born on 5/11/18 on Rabbit Island). Seal 2 - sub-adult size, light male belly and two tags. Marilyn can't say for sure but wonders if its RK24 Wawamalu, Kaiwi's son from 2018. (but we'll never know).
Originally alone near the 3BS was Seal 3 - an unknown juvenile size, female belly and didn't look like there were tags or applied bleaches. This could be one of the 2020 kids. About 12:15 Seal 4 hauled out by Seal 3. Seal 4 was a larger juvenile with two tags. Marilyn never saw the belly so she doesn't know the gender.
Out on the rocks flats between SRI and RRB were two seals, possibly the same two she saw yesterday. Seal 5 - sub-adult to adult size with a lighter mottled female belly with two tags. She may have had a scar on her right rear side. Seal 6 - adult size, mottled gray male belly. He never showed his rear flippers so tags unknown, and no good view of LFF to see if there was any NB.
Team R&B found RG28 Lefty first this morning all the way up by the bushes. His snout is looking pink, not as bad as RW22. They called the hotline since the beach was filling up. Volunteer put up four signs. Then Team R&B spotted another seal coming in, it was RH32 Kaale and the party was just beginning. Here comes a third seal it was RN14 Kalani. The three boys got into ta fight along the shore line. There were a bunch of kids from a camp site very close to the seal. Lefty fought and then he took off. Kaale and Kalani landed together the fighting was over.
Team R&B went to check other sites. They found Lefty RG28 had relocated and hauled up near Kekoa
Alii RK72. There were some words but the they settled down and got some rest. After leaving the boys Team R&B took a ride out to Pokai bay and found RH76 Kala on the rocks. They spotted a seal in the bay foraging and eating a fish by the jetty. The seal got close to the fishermen now and then and Team R&B were able to ID RH92 Nalani.
