Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, posse pal Justin T. and Team R&B💕.
Posse pal Justin spotted two seals today at Hanauma Bay. He ID'd N2 Nohea by her bleach mark on right side and no tags. The other seal was a large male without any tags. He was laying on his right side so he was unable to see if there were any marking. He was reported at an unidentified male.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:10 to 1:10 today and spotted four seals.
About 80 ft right of the 1BS was an (SAF) unknown sub-adult, light yellowish female belly and two
tags. There were no obvious markings like natural bleaches or scar. She was later visited by an unknown male (UM).Between Middle Cliff and 3BS near the waterfront rocks was a (SAM) unknown sub-adult with a light colored male belly and two tags. He moved up the shore for awhile and then came back down to waterfront rocks.
Slightly left of the 3BS was an UM unknown adult with gray male belly and two tags. At some point he left the 3BS beach and showed up to visit the SAF nearer the 1BS. He was still with her when Marilyn left.
A little past the 3BS was (JM) an unknown juvenile yellowish male belly and no tags. He is thought to be one of the 2020 pups. Marilyn did not see any applied bleach marks, but the lighting wasn't that great.
Lastly there was a Red-Footed Booby wandering through the Sooty Tern nesting area in the 3BS area. Let's just say the terns were not happy.
Team R&B💕 spotted Kaale RH32 in the outfall foraging before 7
am. They also saw an seal off electric beach cruising possibly foraging. They left the area to pickup junior sealette. When they returned they found Kaale on shore at tracks. The other seal was now cruising by at tracks. They spotted another seal coming in to haul out. Turns out to be R407 Kawika, but he took a look at Kaale, turned around and left. Kaale took off with him.
Team R&B💕 was keeping their eyes on one of the seals that was cruising in the water when they noticed another seal coming in. Here's RN14 Kalani, he hauled up and barked at a drone, then settled in. Meanwhile Kaale RH32 his bosom buddy came back and hauled out with Kalani for the day. It was nice to have a volunteer there the entire time.
They left to check another location and they saw the seal that had been cruising in the water all day coming towards the rocks. Its snout had two small wounds, pink in color. The seal put its head on the rocks and turned on its side and there is was that beautiful bleach. They were able to finally ID RW22 Kolohe. He looks around but doesn't land.
Then they see Kawika R407 on the rocks with Kekoa RK72 snoozing. They were settled in for the day.
