April 22, 2025 Tuesday's Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn had a chaotic day viewing Rabbit Island from 12:25 to 3:25 pm. There were eight seals seen during that time along with three spear fishermen.
Initially near the LPB surge channel were MO3 and PO3. There was more activity than yesterday and both mom and pup seem to be doing fine. At 2:06 pm, Marilyn discovered an Adult Male seal had joined them. The pup went fairly close to the AM and then returned to mom.
The AM was adult size, may have a line scar on his mid right side, an older coat and at least one red tag. The AM was gone by 2:27 pm.
Between 1BS and 2BS was a Sub-adult Female: smaller sub-adult size, yellow female belly and two red tags. She have been been present during the entire time, but Marilyn noticed her at 12:53 pm. At 2:41 pm the AM hauled out to the SF and they were both still near each other when Marilyn left for the day.
In their usual place on the 3BS side of Middle Cliff was RF34 Pua and her pup PO4. The pup was initially behind mom, but struggled over the waterfront rocks to come around to her front.
At 12:59 pm, three spear fishermen hauled out their kayaks between 3BS and SRI. They pulled the kayaks up the beach to leave them. They then went back into the water and continued to spear fish. Pua was very alert for the time they were on the island and in the water.
Marilyn called DOCARE soon after they arrived. She does not know if they were able to respond.
At 1:16 pm Juvenile Female 1 hauled out and galumphed about 15 feet from the kayaks and went into snooze mode. She was juvenile size, light female belly and two red tags. She later moved closer to the waterline and entered the water when the spear fishers returned for their kayaks.
At 1:59 pm Juvenile Female 2 hauled out almost directly down from the 3BS. JF2 was juvenile size, greenish tan female belly, unsure about tags.
The spear fishermen managed to walk by all eight seals twice. Needless to say Marilyn was not happy. Pua expressed her displeasure at them but did not chase them.

Team R&B had a better seal day than yesterday. The first seal they found today was Lefty RG28. He was resting alone at seal inlet.

Over at guard rails they spotted a fat seal resting on the rocks. They knew it was R604 by all the cc scars on her body. As they walked over they spotted a new wound, another cc wound on the right fore flipper, looking pretty fresh.
Just as they were getting ready to leave they saw another seal coming in behind her. So they went to check it out and found it was RP28 Wakea. He landed to the right of R604.  Apparently she was in his spot, so he being his adorable self let her have it.

Next they headed over to Nimitz where they saw three DLNR officers
and a base police officer. They were concerned to rushed over to the area and didn't see anything and the officer just left.  Then they saw people going by the jetty so they hurried over to check it out.  In the water they saw flippers which at first they thought was a turtle, but turned out to be a seal.  The seal was an adult floated with its belly up, and they were able to see a scar under belly and the key to her ID the infamous white flipper. It was our beloved Rocky RH58.
They concentrated on watching Rocky rolling in the shallows. She has a lot of green on her coat. She never landed, and she took forever to the seal outlet to the open ocean. They lost site of her at 2:15 pm.
They were a little concerned as she didn't seem to be herself. Lets hope is good with our old gal.
