Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:25 to 12:47 and then again from 1:30 to 2:48 pm/
There were ultimately three seals seen on Rabbit Island today.
In the middle of LPB was an Adult Male: adult size, somewhat pudgy, two red tags and a male belly.
Between 3BS and SRI was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, older coat, brownish-yellow female belly and two red tags.
At 1:32 pm, Marilyn spotted weaner PO3 hauled out on the Lanikai side of LPB. He moved up the beach and then rolled so his weaner male belly was visible.
Marilyn got a call this morning of a seal on the east side, so shortly after arriving at the pier she left to check the seal. She found R016 Right Spot resting on shore. She called the hotline and was able to get some signs and set up a SRA for her.
She looks good and her shark encounter wounds from earlier this year all appear to be healed.
There were lots of people out and about but everyone was respectful once they realized a seal was there.
A volunteer was on site for several hours and then Gamma Gayle came later. Marilyn will check back tomorrow.
Team R&B's first find was at white plains. They were actually really surprised to find R3CX Nalu, in that they don't ever remember seeing him there. They did mention the beaches were packed today!
Their only other findings today was at Nimitz. When they got there two seal were in the water fightingnext to the reef. People were watching from the shoreline and there was one leashed yapper.
Team R&B asked the folks to set back and let the seals haul in, most listened.
R407 Kawika hauled in first. The second seal took off, then returned. The seal tried to land near R407, but he wasn't having it so the unknown seal continued to look for a spot. Finally landed about 10 feet from R407. The seal had no tags, young with a little scar on its back and male belly. They could not be sure who it was so they reported it as an Unknown Male. (although they thought maybe R617).
