Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:48 to 2:18 and there were six seals seen during that time. A good old fashion seal party!
Among the waterfront rocks between 1BS and 2Bs was weaner PO3: weaner size and shape light gray male belly and no tags.
At 12:53 pm a Juvenile Male hauled out between PO3 and 2BS. The JM was juvenile size, light gray male belly and two red tags.
Between Middle Cliff and 3BS was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, older coat with some green, light tannish yellow female belly and two red tags. She took interest when some of the older seals were in the water offshore of her location.
When Marilyn started viewing, tow seals were about 20 fee Makapuu side of the 3BS. They were:
RK37 Huia (Sadie's 2018 Rabbit Island pup) adult size, older coat, dark tan female belly, two red tags and nb on her lower left side. She hasn't been seen for months, so Marilyn was happy to have her show up. Based on when she molted last year, it was predicted she would pup in April this year. It doesn't appear she is pregnant.
Next to RK37 was a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, tan female belly and two red tags.
At 1:18 pm and Adult Male hauled out to the two females and made quite a stir. After checking out the SF, he moved over to RK37 and she was not happy. The AM was adult size, dark gray male belly and two red tags. The AM continued to have spats with RK37 as they moved in the Makapuu direction and then RK37 and the AM went into the water at 1:45 pm, the SF followed them into the water a short time later. At 1:53 pm TK37 and the AM hauled out to LPB where they moved up the shore and went into snooze mode.
Team R&B first find was when they arrived at Pokai Bay, There wasRM31 Kai alone on the rocks. The boy is looking a little grubby these days.
At another west side location they found tow seals. One of the handsome males was on lower rocks snoozing. They ID'd RL20 Kalua.
The other seal was the little male R416. He was at waterfront rocks sleeping.
A stop at guard rails is where they found two seals side by side. RN04 Kainoa the big male was with female R406.
Lastly they stopped at Nimitz where they saw a seal swimming out of the cove along the jetty. Looked like the seal had some sardines for a snack and finally landed on shore. This seal word them out and they finally were able to ID RN14 Kalani.
Its a shame the seals come to this spot for rest but so many people come with their dogs and make it difficult for the seals. The second seal Team R&B spotted was R407 who swam around for a bit. He finally landed on the sand and was very alert to the people around.
