01/30/2021 Saturday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn and our good pal Diga! Marilyn's Rabbit Island observations are part 2 of the dailies.

Diane did Ka'ena point with Lesley this morning. On this gorgeous day they got to see some seals as well as lots of Albratross with eggs, some hatchlings and some whales spouting and breaching. The cast of characters were: RW02 PvKauai and RN58 Luana were at Ka'ena's Pool RO40 Ka'ena was on back beach and TL98 was at birth beach.

Team Billand found Ka'ale RH32 on shore with Lefty RG28. Kalani

RN14 was also on shore by the bath house. They weren't there long, they all took off and headed out to where the surfers were hanging out. There was one surfer who was so nice while the boys were out there around him. He was calm and let the seals pass by. About an hour later Lefty came back to shore and stayed by the bath house alone. Kalane RN14 landed down by the rocks and Kaale landed alone too. They were all there but spread out away from each other.

Team Billand went to check another west side location and found Kekoa RK72 snoozing alone on lower rocks. They found RH76 Kala alone to the right on the rocks.

While Team Billand was at another site they could observe tracks from afar and noticed another seal landing at tracks. There were a lot of people there, so when they could they headed over. It was R407 Kawika still there. So many people waltzing by like he was just a rock.

They went over to the bay and found RN44 already up on the rocks to the right. Jumpers were there but not bothering the seal at all. RN44 was aware of the people and he moved down to the pond and kept looking around. While on site Team Billand witnessed a surfer being brought in by the life guards.
