09/11/2020 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Lesley and Team Billand.  Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

We also got some sad news today regarding the loss of a young seal on Kauai. DLNR/DOCARE and NOAA/OLE are looking for information. Here is the link:  https://www.facebook.com/HawaiiDLNR/photos/a.276310779076837/4304698252904716/?type=3&theater

Team Billand found Ka'ale RH32 foraging at the outfall this morning, up to his usual fish stealing antics. Shortly after he made a b line for a close by beach, hauled up and made himself comfortable. He is looking nice and healthy and very green.

Kawena RH36 had just hauled up on the rocks, waves still hitting her. Her hooking scar was visible, the small half a cookie scar on right side. Her little wound on right eye lid is still open but looking okay.

RL20 Kalua was seen inland on a small sand patch against the rocks

at another west side location. He is about 40% into his molt most under belly and by neck and ankle area. His original hook on his mouth is still there but no other little ones on him. He is showing no signs of stress just resting comfortably.

RL70 Leina was in the area up high mid rock snoozing alone. This is her 6th straight day at this location. She is very green but no molt yet. Her white nail, L14 bleach were visible.

R3CX Nalu was to the right near seal inlet snuggling the rocks. He had a hold on them keeping the waves from washing him away. His tags, natural bleach were visible.
