Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from Makai Pier from 11:35 am to 2:00 pm today. The weather was mostly sunny with light winds. There were only five seals today, which use to be considered a good day.
At the back and far left of LPB out on the rock flats were the same two seals that have been there for the past 3 days:
Seal 1 - unidentified adult male (UAM), older coat, dark male belly with nb or light umbilicus and at least one tag.
Seal 2 - unidentified adult female who has started molting. At least the upper chest area has molted. Seems this is RB12 Sadie who returned home to do her post-weaning molt.
Seal 3 - unidentified subadult to adult female, with 2 tags, a light female belly with a fair amount of green, so not a recent molter. 5 female humans landed on RI this afternoon and they unintentionally ran this seal into the water. The seal followed along in the water as they headed back to their kayak and paddle boards. The incident was reported to DOCARE.
Near 1BS was Seal 4, an unidentified weaner, no tags, not sure of its sex and no evidence of an applied bleach. This seal was just hauling out when Marilyn arrived. It entered the water at 12:25 pm and was not seen again. It had left before the people landed on the island.
Seal 5 - about 40 feet Makapuu side of 3BS. young juvenile, new coat, 2 tags, male belly.
On the west side today there was RL70 Leina and R3CX Nalu. Nalu was in the small pond snoozing and Leina RL70 was on the same rocks as yesterday.
Leina was on her side on the lower rocks. Once again there was no interaction between the two of them.
