09/16/2020 Wednesday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand who spotted four critters today.

They found Ka'ale RH32 early this morning. He had left the outfall and hauled out at a near by beach. While taking photos they noticed he has a small hook on his right hind flipper. They reported the hook, and its not a bad at all, small and doesn't seem to bother him. He was alone resting.

A little later they found RK72 Kekoa hauling out on high rocks. He is alone and his broken tag and scar were visible.

They spotted a seal below on sand patch and it's 100% molted. Little Kalua RL20 is completed molted and looking quite handsome. He remained in the same spot all day.

Team Billand spotted a RL70 Leina coming in water front rocks to the right. She is very green, and it looks like her molt may be starting. There is a small spot around her eye and snout that looks like a possibility.  She came in and snuggled up to the rocks in the hot sun.

The highlight of the day came when Kekoa hauled out again through seal inlet sniffing out the area and discovering RL70 Leina. Up to this point she hasn't been seen interacting with any other seals. They heard Leina sneeze and she sees Kekoa heading towards her. She scrunched down low, but Kekoa knew exactly how to get to her. At first they sniffed each other, kissed, hugged and then Leina turned away.  She showed him her butt snorted and they got into a scuffle, mouths wide opened, splashing about.  A little scary since she is so small and Kekoa being a big boy.

Leina galumphed away quickly and she was able to squeeze through and get away. Kekoa went after her but he is huge and got wedged between the rocks.  RL70 Leina galumphed to a safe spot and stayed about 40 feet awat. Kekoa kept looking over but gave up and stayed where he was.
