September 16, 2024 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Tammy, posse pal Kathy and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:55 am to 1:30 pm and there were two seals seen during that time.
Just after Marilyn started viewing, chubby weaner RT90 Manapua hauled out on the back Lanikai side of LPB, almost exactly where he was yesterday. He was ID'd by his large weaner size and shape, tow red tags and light male belly.
About 30 feet Lanikai side of the 1B was what Marilyn believes to be a fully molted R416 Makali'i: sub-adult size, new coat, light male belly with some scars and dark patches on the ventral, and not tags.

Tammy is visiting the Big Island for a bit. After looking for a few days and coming up empty she got lucky today. Her first find a male RL50 Kaulana, he was in the water.
Next was RT64 baby girl Keaka born this past June!

Team R&B started their day at the bay. As they walked out, their little friend (a 3 year old) and her mom came running over to tell them there were four seals. Team R&B have been educating Kalena and her mom for almost a year. (They recruit the young ones) When they got to the area Kalena kept pointing to the seals calling out "Auntie!!!"
The first seal was RG32, then there was RM31 Kai and next was Kala RH76. Alone to the right was RH48 Lei Ola.
Kalena and her mom had to leave, but not before giving Team R&B a hug!

Team R&B kept checking the area for other seals and to their surprise they spotted RH32 Kaale. He came up while they were looking at the other end.
Then another friend ran over to say there was a man disturbing the seals. So they ran over and saw the guy. All three seals: RG32, RM31 and RH76 went moving on the rocks, and barking. They yelled out to the guy to stop and move away waving their hands for him to get back. At first he stared at them but they called out again then thankfully he left on a bike. Needless to say this was extremely upsetting.

They left to check other areas and coming up empty. They were concerned so they returned to check on the seals and they only found RH76 Kala and RG32 in the front area.
They saw Lei Ola RH48, RL20 Kalua and R3CX Nalu foraging in a school of fish.

Late email from posse pal Kathy sent a couple of photos of a seal on the beach when she took her morning walk. It was there at 7 am but when she got back it was gone by 9 am. She believes the seal is a female with an older green coat. She couldn't determine if there were tags.  Hard to see much more in the photos.
