September 15, 2024 Sundays' Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕
As a side note, under the yesterdays news I forgot to include that Team R&B also found RP28 out at Ka'ena West yesterday.  I'm not sure how this got overlooked but I wanted to include it in todays update.

Team R&B received a text from a friend letting them know there were two seals on the rocks at Pokai.  When they got to the area there were actually three seals. To the left was RM31 Kai alone. In the front of
the area was RH76 Kala and in front to the right was Lei Ola RH48.
While there they kept checking the water looking for more seals. Their instincts  were spot on, finally at the rest camp side they spotted a green seal foraging. The unknown green seal had tags but was too far away to get any ID.

Team R&B observed a rescue of an older man on a kayak who they have seen before. Not sure what happened other than the lifeguard ran entered the water heading for the kayak, then a lifeguard on a jet ski
arrived. They towed him in as he held on. Luckily the man was okay, awesome job guys!!

Team R&B made their way out to Ka'ena West again today. They made the walk out even though it was hotter than yesterday. The only seal they came across was RP28, the small male from Kauai. He was alone on the rocks resting.
They decided to recheck at Pokai. They saw three seals on the same side. There was RM31 Kai, RH32 Kaale and RH76 Kala.
They saw Kaale fly over the rocks, when he saw another seal to the left. He hurried over and found RM31 Kai. Kai protected himself by posturing and barking at Kaale.  Then Kaale took off.
Kala RH76 and Kai RM31 remained.  There was no sign of Lei Ola who had been there earlier.

September 14, 2024 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕

They started their day at Kahe with their first find. Alone on the rocks was RL08 resting. He is really green, which made them wonder if he was the "green" seal seen foraging at Pokau the other day.

Next they headed over to Pokai where they found RH76 Kala. She was alone resting at her zen garden. Then Team R&B got some disturbing news from a woman who said, there had been two people there harassing some seals that were on the rocks. The woman
actually called the police.  Of course this upset Team R&B and they were concerned in that for the last couple week they have seen 4 to 5 seals in the area. They have done lots of outreach, only to hear two idiots could have hurt them.  They thanked the woman for helping.
They went and searched for hours looking for RH32 Kaale, RL20 and Lei Ola. They did not see them anywhere. Hopefully they were just run off and found a better place to rest.

After hearing the disturbing news they needed to take some time, so they headed to Ka'ena West and walked. Things like this makes one
question whether or not one has the strength to keep the effort going. They thought about and wondering if the seals they been looking after for the last two weeks would be okay.
That when they looked down and saw a very green seal with no tags. I personally think its a sign, that not even five minutes into their walk they come across a seal.
They weren't sure who this little critter was, he looks like the seal they saw last week at yoks. After a while they thought this might be R407 Kawika, and it looks like he's going to molt soon.

After leaving Ka'ena west they stopped by the cliffs to check. They were happy to find Mr. Kai RM31.He was alone resting on the edge of the rocks.

They had to take junior sealette back home but stopped at one more place. There were no seals but then saw some splashing.  A good way to end an upsetting day was getting to see the dolphins doing what they do best.

September 13, 2024 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn Rabbit Island from 12:15 to 1:50 pm and there were three seals seen during that time.
At the back Lanikai side of LPB was chubby weaner RT90 Manapua. He was ID'd by his large size, two  red tags and light tan male belly.
On LPB was R416 Makali'i: sub-adult to adult size, molting, new light male belly with distinctive scars and dark patches and no tags.
About 30 feet in the Makapuu direction from R416 was an Unknown Sub-adult: large juvenile or sub-adult size, light ventral but unsure of its sex, and two red tags. This might be weaner RT19, but the seal seemed too long and lean to be him.

Team R&B started their day at the bay. They found RH32 Kaale galumphing up on the rocks, looking around for Kala. He gave up after moving about 100 feet. He settled and just laid there.
While still onsite they spotted a seal flying by, then it turned and hauled up between the rocks. It was Miss Kala RH76. She was hiding from the boys, smart girl. She chose a different spot to hide and laid low.

All week Team R&B has been reporting seals foraging off shore. One being a clean coat female seen daily. Well this morning, there on the rocks was the lovely Lei Ola RH48. She is fat, after all that foraging and has a beautiful new clean coat.
They went to recheck on Kaale RH32, came back to Lei Ola and to their surprise she entered the water and swam off. They were happy to have solved the mystery of the clean coat seal they been seeing all week.
They may have solved the mystery of one seal but they did see
another seal from afar foraging in the school of fish. This appears to be the seal with a lot of green on its coat.

They checked all the usual spots looking for more seals. Finally stopping at the cliffs they found Kai RM31. He was alone on the rocks resting. No seal buddies today.

They headed back to Pokai for a recheck. They were surprised to see Kala RH76 alone snoozing on a sandy patch.
Then over to the other side was Kaale RH32 with Lei Ola RH48. They were bummed they weren't there when the two met up. Lei Ola is huge, well fat from chowing down. Kaale seemed content to be with his new girl.

Lastly while onsite they watched as the Hokulea left. The men collected the ramp, rope and buoys from the area. Safe travels.
