Before getting into the dailies I would like to wish our beloved Barbara a very Happy Birthday. Wishing you all the best, lots of love and health!
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:50 to 2:45 and there were four seals on island and two kayakers who landed for an extended period of time. Marilyn filed a DOCARE report via the tip line.
About 40 feet of the 3BS was a Juvenile Male: juvenile size, light male belly and two red tags. He looked long and thin in some positions. Marilyn's guess he is undergoing a growth spurt. The male kayaker did get fairly close to him but then turned around. The J/M did not change his behavior.
About 50 feet of the 3BS and down among the waterfront rocks wasMom Adult Female and PO3. Marilyn did see a scar on her right rear which would ID her as RF34. PO3 was active and moves around a lot. When the tide starting rising they moved up and Mom kept barking at the birds on the rocks.
Initially well hidden among the waterfront rocks about 30 feet Makapuu side of the 3BS was RK37 Huia. She finally moved up with the rising tide. She was ID'd primarily by her NB on lower left side and her subadult size.
Team R&B started at paradise cove and looked for shells while waiting for seals. They gave up after about 20 minutes.
They went to secrets and there was one seal in the corner by the reef trying to haul out. Two men were standing there so the seal stayed low until the men left. Kalani RN14 landed on the reef left side. Volunteer was there with ropes and signs.
They walked back to recheck paradise cove. Good they did because RG28 Lefty had hauled out on shore. They let the volunteer know he wasn't there earlier.
At another west side location they found three seals. Kala RH76 was at her waterfront rocks, where she seems to be quite comfortable.
To the left on high rocks was RL08 and Puka RP30. They were together just resting without any interaction. All was peaceful.
