10/12/2022 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 10:40 to 12:30, initially there was only one seal. He was joined by another later on. There was also a kayak on island stashed near the 2BS that brought skin divers to the island.
About 40 feet Makapuu side of the 1BS was a S/M: larger subadult size, new coat, light male belly and two red tags. There may be a scar on the lower left lip which would suggest this is RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno. Marilyn just couldn't be sure.
About 12:15 another seal hauled out to the S/M. Marilyn is identifying the new arrival as an U/S: smalled subadult size, she did not see the ventral side and she thinks there are two red flipper tags.
Not long after the U/S hauled out the male diver walked behind the seals and threw a fish in front of them. The seals did not seem to react much to this, but the U/S watched him as he walked away.
About 10 minutes later the S/M headed into the water and was soon followed by the U/S.  Marilyn could see they were interacting in the water.

On Team R&B's first stop they were happy to find RL08 still hanging around. It was early and he was on the rocks looking good.  He has so many cc scars, but still handsome.

Next they walked carefully out on shore at Makaha. There they saw Nalu alone, snoozing and molting like crazy. He looks like he will be done soon.

They spotted a seal from a distance, so they went to check it out.
There were two folks also there checking out the seal, ID'd as RG28 Lefty. He is so green, most likely another "molter" in the near future.
When they got out of the car, gearing up when they noticed a seal. It was RM31 Kai, who finally moved on from his spot from the last couple of day. He is going through his molt and is almost done. The tourist were arriving, so Team R&B began to educate them with monk seal 101.

They did the Ka'ena West trek and didn't find any seal out there. They happen to look up and once again they spotted Iwa birds. there were like twenty of them flying around. They rushed back to check on RM31 Kai.  As they were putting their stuff in the car and did one more check they saw Lefty sneaking up on Kai.  They were thrilled to see the two together, and the tourist also got to see the two in action.
