10/07/2022 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 2:50 to 4:05 and there were ultimately six seals during her observation.
There was a group of four seals from the 1BS to LPB.
On LPB was a molting adult M/A: adult size, about 95% molted, gray female belly and two red tags.
Next to the M/A was a subadult male S/M: subadult size, newer coat, gray male belly and two red tags. This is probably RK24 based on right side scar about 1/3 forward from rear flippers.
J/M: juvenile size, light tan male belly and unsure about tags.
Weaner RQ44 Mahina, weaner size and shape, light female belly, although Marilyn did not see her three tags or applied bleach.
Alone between SRI and 3BS was an U/S: subadult size, unknown gender, newer coat.
About 3:20 Marilyn became aware of an adult male in the center back of LPB. A/M: adult size, newer coat, light gray male belly, not sure about tags. He then moved closer to 1BS.

Team R&B had a busy day with seven seals.
The first took a while to ID, the seal was facing at an angle making it hard. Added to that there were dogs in the area so they didn't want to get too close to the location. Finally they ID'd RN14 Kalani, who ended up coming up on the rocks.

At another west side location they spotted a seal up on high rocks, they knew it was a male but didn't know which one. After checking with the posse they confirmed it was RG32 who is back on the west side after being gone for a few days.

They saw a seal from afar on shore. When they got to the area they were able to ID R3CX who is
looking quite green.

Next they found a handsome little male over at cliffs. There was handsome RP30 Puka fully molted, just resting on the rocks.
They spotted a seal galumphing up on the rocks. The seal was clean, newly molted. They spotted a big CC scar on right fore flipper confirming this was RL98 Lina.

Team R&B did the Ka'ena west trek and first found RL70 Leina. On the way out she had moved inland due to the surf coming in. She is looking healthy and looks like she put on some weight.
The second critter they found out on their tresk was RQ24 Mauna, in his spot. He was on his back snoring the day away, looking quite adorable.
On their way driving back from Ka'ena west they spotted two seals in the water close to shore. They were fighting/playing and then swimming off.
They were able to get an ID on RL98 but the other was more difficult. They would guess it was RM31 but aren't sure so they reported him as an unknown male U/M.  The two went swimming off into the sunset.
