03/04/2020 Wednesday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand.  Before I begin the dailies sightings on Oahu, I wanted to share the link to KITV's story about RA20 rescue on the Big Island by the Marine Mammal Center.  As scary as this all is, she is in the best possible place for the best possible care.

Team Billand was at a west side beach before 7 am. They spotted a seal laying on its side in the shallows. It was RW02 PvKauai who remained in the same spot all day.

R3CU was to the right of seal inlet and had just hauled up. The scratches on his face were visible to help with the ID.   On their recheck of the area R3CU was snoozing in the same spot and they got a shot of his tags.

They spotted Kekoa Alii RK72 foraging when they fist saw him. On their next visit he was up to the right of R3CU on his side. He is a BIG boy and looking fat and happy.  He eventually moved to the little water hole where he remained for the rest of the day.

Early morning Team Billand did find R407 Kawika (new kid on the block) near the jetty.  They got to see Melody today and talk story about Oahu's newest visitor. He was covered in sand but Team Billand was able to confirm his ID. He was the only seal in the area today.

Back to the west side beach there was RL20 Kalua who had just hauled out on left high rocks. He was alone and stayed in his spot all day. His coat is getting pretty green.

In late afternoon they found Kaale RH32 snoozing on the right with his face planted into the rocks. He only lifted his head twice, other than that he just slept the entire time. They got his tag shot and it wasn't until then did they realize this was their favorite butthead!.
