Team Billand didn't get an early start because of car problems. But as soon as the repairs were done, they were out on the beaches.
First find for them today was two seals in the water coming up to the rocks. There was a local gentleman who was nearby with some tourist he brought over with him.
He told them of the seals that come up to rest. Of course Barbara was able to fill in a lot of blanks and gave them all a lesson in monk seal 101 which includes keeping a safe distance.
First critter up was Ka'ale RH32 on the rocks and then RN14 Kalani went all the way around and seemed to be restless. Finally Kalani hauled up with Ka'ale and the bosom buddies were back together. There were no shenanigans between them just resting peacefully. Team Billand headed out after the tourist got their fill.
Next stop just before 1 pm they found RIP RR70 on lower rocks snoozing. Kolohe RW22 was in the playboy pond blowing bubbles while snoozing. His natural bleach was visible.
Team Billand did the Ka'ena West trek but didn't see any seals, noting the surf was wild and powerful.
They met up with a DLNR officier who informed them the park from the west side was going to close at 5 pm due to dangerous surf.
