Although the weather and conditions were working against me, I thought I would give it the good ole' college try. The good news there were two critters on island. One adult unidentified and one juvenile unidentified. The problem was getting a photo of anything. It took everything I had to keep the scope steady long enough to be able to see the critters. Winds gusting, grey skies, drizzle and choppy waters made getting a photo of any value impossible. Just good to know there were a couple critters getting some rest unaffected by the conditions around them.
Team Billand went to plains to watch the sunrise, but it never did, well it did but the cloudy windy drizzle made it difficult to see. So Team Billand hit up the beaches nearby and found no one. Finally they found RW22 Kolohe at rocks, all alone and snoozing away this blustery day.
Team Billand watched the dolphins who were having a great time playing in the choppy seas, until the boats came by and that was that.
At 9:30 Team Billand found RW02 PvKauai resting on shore. It wasn't long before a couple of people came by and weren't very nice. Team Billand did their best to talk with the two young boys, who were not having it. Team Billand called the hotline to let them know.
At 10 volunteer Melina arrived to put up signs. Later in the afternoon Team Billand checked back and RW02 was no longer there.
Team Billand found RIP RR70 at a west side location on the rocks. They had been there earlier but did not see any seals, but then again the conditions were so bad they couldn't really get out on the rocks to get a good look. On their last visit RIP was still there all dry and resting.
Needless to say Team Billand did not do the Ka'ena West trek today (good call).
