December 6, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and posse pal Vicki.  Actually Vicki was out on Thursday so her sightings fall into the yesterday news department.

Vicki hit up the north shore on Thursday and was not disappointed to find the gorgeous and very healthy looking Sadie.  She is quite a beauty and I have to admit every time there is a Sadie sighting I think of DB and how he would so love to see her other than through a scope.

Vicki's next find was Holokai G40. When she first spotted him he was snoozing, so she left him and went to look for others.  Vicki did not find any other seals, but did find some beautiful albatross, and from what she could gather there were a few nests and the colony is growing.
Vicki went back to check on Holokai he had entered the water about 5:40 pm and was foraging off shore.

In Today's news Team Billand is back online!
They started their day at 7 am at the outfall. They spotted a critter foraging and then coming in doing 4 minute dives, although they didn't see it catch any fish. What they did see is a natural cue ball bleach mark in which they could quickly ID RN14 Kalani.  We haven't heard from this dude for a bit.
Kalani then headed off in a westerly direction and they lost sight of him.

Then just after noontime they were checking a west side location and they spotted RN14 Kalani way out on the rocks sleeping alone. His natural bleach visible, and hind flipper scar.  Since they last saw him he is completely molted looking to be in good shape, fat, no new markers and quite handsome.

At 11:30 Team Billand arrived at a west side location and there was nothing happening. Then they spotted some movement and it was a seal hauling in. Seal with a new coat, cookie scar on back side with a bleach mark.
Even though they did not see the tags they knew it was R3CU, He continued to go up into the rocks and then they lost sight of him.

Next sighting was little RL98 tagged #206 with N34 bleach. She was snoozing on the rocks blending in being little and tan belly. They did not stay around her so that no one else would notice.

Sometime around 10:30 back at one of the west side location they spotted RIP RR70. He was in his usual spot.
While checking on RIP they spotted a seal come slithering in to the right, bobbing her head up and down, looking for a spot to haul out. They ID'd RH76 Kala hauled up mid rocks, came up cautiously, then tried to settle in and finally did.
Kala noticed another seal to her far right, got a little nervous but then settled. RN14 Kalani let out a loud sneeze, Miss Kala turned around and took off down the rocks into the water. Poor kid got spooked.
This left the two boys Kalani and RIP who remained on the rocks.
