Team T&D were out at Ka'ena Point and met up with Lesley yesterday. Their only find for the day was RL74 Kami on back beach. She was resting on the shoreline, letting an occasional wave hit her. One wave was big enough it rolled her and woke her up, but she settled back down for more shut eye.
Team Billand went to the outfall early morning and spent a couple of hours at the site. They watched as Ka'ale RH32 foraged in the outfall, stole fish from the fishermen. They stayed to watch, to make sure he didn't get himself into trouble, but after two hours he was still out there foraging in and out of the outfall, so they left.
Later in the afternoon they found Ka'ale hauled out at a nearby location. He was alone, fat and happy.
After leaving the outfall Team Billand headed over to Plains. When they arrived volunteer Christine was there and had set up a SRA. There were lots of visitors out and about and very excited to see a seal. Pohaku RO28 did not disappoint by turning up to look at them. Team Billand left after an hour.
At 12:30 Team Billand went to check a west side location and found two seals. RW02 PvKauai and RH76 Kala both sleeping on the rocks. RW02 was facing the water and Kala was close by snoozing. Luckily both animals tags were clearly visible. Both animals were in good condition.
Team Billand went to another west side location and spotted an adult animal with a big cookie scar on it's back. There was a subtle little bleach spot on the back and they ID'd RO40 Ka'ena. He was tucked away, well hidden and to make matter worse he just didn't move much. Team Billand left as there were people coming near and they didn't want to expose him.
This morning while watching Ka'ale at the outfall Team Billand did see some whale action. One with "polka dots" which are most likely barnacles.
