September 5, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Lesley.  Lesley's complete Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies. (yay! )

Team Billand arrived at KoOlina before 6 am, and as soon as they arrived they see RH92 snoozing at the Naupaka bushes. There were no signs, as all are taken away every evening. Wouldn't it be easy to leave some for easy access. Suppose to be smarter not harder, in my opinion.

Team Billand let security know and they wait for them to bring the signs. Good news security is always helpful. Team Billand started the process of educating folks, some of them are now daily visitors checking on little miss RH92.
One person on site is from the Marine Mammal Center on the mainland, one of the regulars that stops by to keep track of RH92. Team Billand has gotten to know Tracy and they spend lots of time talking story. ( I assume lots of seal story :-)

RH92 may have started molting, on her head scar and a spot on her left side below her flipper. She seems very "moody" and "restless", eventually calming down and slept the morning away.  Many folks were concerned "Is the seal okay? Is it alive?  It's not breathing"  (yes she is).
The kids that were hanging out managed to pull the ropes which fall and Team Billand pickup. Something about ropes that intrigue the kids.

While on site Team Billand saw the USS HALSY ship off shore. WOW big vessel, supposedly its a missile launcher.  Let's just hope they are just out on the water and not launching.
It was getting late and needless to say hot.  Team Billand called the hotline again, asking if a volunteer would arrive. They were told someone might be there by 4 pm.
At 10 am Team Billand left the site.  They had been there for 4 hours, educated 72 people today, and asked people to not swim directly in front of the seal. But today people just did what they wanted to do.

After leaving RH92, Team Billand went to check a couple of west side sites. At 10:30 they arrived at one site and did not see any seals until they went to the right and there was RG28. He was sound a sleep alone on the rocks.
His tags were showing and numerous cookie scars. Looks like he may have gained some weight since they last saw him.
The waves came in and covered him, but he just lay there like nothing matter. He is looking very handsome with his new coat.

Team Billand's last find of the day was Lei Ola RH48.  Looks like she may have just hauled up, alone and peaceful. Her new coat is so beautiful and making her even more amazing.
