September 9, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Lesley. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Team Billand arrived at KoOlina at 6:15 am Day 9 to find little miss RH92 still on shore. She was way up near the Naupaka snoozing and looks to be about 75% molted.

She had lots of visitors again today starting early this morning. Ms. Maurice of Australia comes daily and enjoys watching RH92. She is learning how special RH92 is, and about the molting process. And she is also seeing how some people can be irresponsible when it comes to respecting the boundaries of an endangered species.

Melody arrived and offered to stay and give Team Billand a break.  Barbara knew with her seal intuition that RH92 would be moving soon and sure enough she did.
The best came when RH92 was playing and mouthing a "Popeyes" chicken dish for a bit. Such a joy to watch them play with items, and everyone agreed by taking tons of photos with cameras and cell phones.

Volunteer Melina arrived.  Just before 9 am RH92 galumphed into the water and headed to the rocks, did some rolling and rubbing on the rocks. It appeared she might have had a snack too.
A swimmer was headed towards her and everyone was trying to warn him. The guy finally looked up and they all pointed to the seal in front of him.  He moved away. LOL
Then there were two women who exercise daily and were heading in RH92s direction Melina yelled out to warn them, but they just did their thing.  Funny image to have RH92 right behind their butts, they had no idea. (lucky she didn't try to take a nibble)

RH92 decided to change locations when she hauled out, so Barb,
Melody and Melina ran for the signs and ropes, set up a new new zone. She settled in and looks very clean, about 80% done molting.  At 10 am Team Billand left KoOlina and left RH92 in the hands of volunteers.

Team Billand headed out to check some other west side beaches. They found RIP RR70 laying on the rocks, snoozing. He appeared to have just arrived. RIP is looking very robust, healthy and there were no new wounds.

Next Team Billand found the lovely Miss Lei Ola RH48. She was on the rocks snoozing getting washed over by waves. Her body was jiggling and getting moved around. They spotted two new markers on her right lower neck.  Her subtle little face scar by the corner of mouth was visible.  Her new coat is looking beautiful silver gray.

There were no other seals found by Team Billand today.
