Team Billand for last 12 days have rushed over to KoOlina first thing in the morning to check on RH92. She did not disappoint this morning. When they arrived the signs were on the side waiting for them to set up and folks starting arriving early trying to get a glimpse of her. ( Team Billand was told there were some people coming early to try and get pictures before the zone was set up so they could get closer).
Team Billand called the hotline and left a message. In the end no volunteer came while they were on site.
Little Miss RH92 was lazy today, didn't go down to the waters edge until after 8 am. She seems more alert to the people in the area.
Team Billand's "best buddy" Marice came by again today, they talked story about life. Marice leaves the islands on Saturday, lets hope RH92 comes by tomorrow to see her one last time.
A worker from KoOlina lifted the ropes and went into the zone to remove Lauhala leaves. RH92 was well aware of his presence and her face showed she wasn't pleased. Team Billand advised him to come out of the zone.
They called the hotline again, they said no one was coming as of yet. Team Billand continued to wait (and it was a hot one today.)
They gave up just after 10, the heat was too much and they did all they could to educate people. So many of the people were really nice, and hopefully they will watch over RH92 until a volunteer gets there.
Team Billand only found one more seal on the west side. They
spotted a seal moving up land. Tags were RH36/H37 Kawena! She is looking beautiful in her new coat shining so vividly in the hot sun. She settled in a little water hole and sleeps.
Team Billand took a much needed break at 2 pm. After a late lunch they returned to check on Kawena but she was gone. We shall see what tomorrow brings.
Melody had a long day, and will fill in us in tomorrow. But the big news today came when Melody got a text from a friend that Rocky was on their beach. We knew she left Kauai, but seems she has taken her sweet time getting back. (then again she could have been anywhere without us knowing).
When Melody arrived Rocky was in her "usual" spot. Security had brought down the signs and put them up. There were some new people to the community who had just set up "camp" in the SRA. Melody approached them and gave them a very quick and to the point Monk Seal 101 education session. They were very cooperative and picked up their belongings and moved.
Melody ID'd Rocky and called the hotline. She hung out with her until evening which Rocky pretty much had the beach to herself. There were a couple of visitors coming by a lot of new folks so Melody happily shared Rocky's story. She called it a day at 7:30.
