Bright and early this morning Team Billand was out at Makaha. Today's high tide made the getting to the area a challenge, water busting over the rocks up to the shore and bushes. There was a seal there in the dark. Hotline was informed and once Team Billand was able to make a positive ID they called back and updated the hotline the seal was RL42.
With the exception of her reacting to the gust of winds blowing the trees and naupaka causing her to react, she was in complete snooze mode for their entire visit. Team Billand constructed a wall using rocks, and sand, just enough to send a message keep away. A volunteer arrived on scene. Team Billand left the site at 9:30 am and spent most of the day searching for da Benny with no luck. Barbara asks "where is he?" I think he went out for a good meal after his molt :-)
Posse pal Vicki was on the north shore today and her only find was a cute critter on his own RG40 Holokai. He was alone sleeping but looking quite content. There are no photos and Vicki didn't actually see her, but she did get word that Kaimana had been in the area. I hope this brings some peace of mind to those who have been wondering.
Our pal Gayle spotted four critters on Rabbit Island. Gayle received a call this morning from a friend to day there was a seal at Sandy Beach and that the critter was very close to the path leading down to the beach. Gayle had a hunch it was Buster and sure enough when she arrived she ID'd him. She called the hotline to report him and also wanted to inform NOAA, since they been waiting to vaccinate him. Good work Gayle, Team NOAA made their way out and gave Buster his shot. Apparently Buster wasn't too happy, because he took off as soon as they were done. On her afternoon check Buster had not returned.
That wasn't the end of Gayle's day. Gayle found Right Spot in the keiki pond, she moved later this afternoon ending up closer to the road. A new volunteer arrived and they both stayed with Right Spot until 18:15. Right Spot was snoozing when they left, but Gayle was concerned as to how close to the road she was, so she placed a giant buoy in front of her just in case the trucks who go down to the beach will see her. (Oh great this will keep me up tonight).
