In the dark and huge surf pounding at Makaha Team Billand spots a seal way up in the Naupaka Bushes at 5:55am . Gee wonder who it could be? It's da Benny ! Team Billand had to improvise using a sand barrier and driftwood to create a zone. Once people started showing up Robert gave them the Monk Seal 101.
Once Benny started to move they had lots of questions. Hotline was called of Benny's location. At 8:24 am Benny shuffled down the sand to the rocks, put his head on the rock looked about shuffled in the shallows and left the site, going straight out to sea, passing the surfers. Team Billand called the hotline to update on Benny's departure. Benny is 90% molted with a last piece hanging on his back side, which should be gone after his swim.
Today was the day! Team Billand identified Pohaku R028 foraging off shore at Campbells. She was doing 6 minute dives. Finally Barbara was able to see a large cookie scar on left side and her clean coat, along with a ding on her head and a scar on her face. That had to feel good to finally get an ID.
Gayle spotted two critters on Rabbit Island today. Gayle also found Buster V08 at Sandy Beach this morning. Welcome back Buster! Right Spot joined Buster around 13:00 today. At 18:00 Right Spot made a slight move toward the water and gave Buster some words like bug off Buster boy. The whole time moving toward the water they were grumbling and lasted about 20 minutes before they both ended up in the water. It was too dark to keep an eye on them, if they stayed in the shallows or swam off.
Benny - looking good !
Now where's RL42 - I'm back to my handsome self!
