On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0707 there was no Mom & Pup visible as has been the case of late, but I did see an animal up in the Morning Glory, at the base of the cliff, 40 ft left of 1BS. I have never before seen an animal in that location. When I got back at 0830 I found Sadie&PO2 on the beach doing a feed. The other animal was still up there. Finally, at 1127 has it began to move down to cool off, that beautiful NB on the RFF showed. It was Kea (RN46). He would remain all day.After a morning feed and snooze, Sadie&PO2 reentered the water at 1108, hauling out again at 1226, for a 2nd round feed & snooze.
On a pan at 1059 I found an animal just hauling out to the left end rock flats. It would take some time, and lotsa’ luck, but I finally saw Kaiwi’s (RK96), N72 bleach at 1302.Team Billand checked in at 1422 with the report of RT12 already on the rocks, and Nihoa (R912) just hauling out at Maili Guard Rails.
Last , but certainly not least, a Happy 10th Birthday to my #3 son Buster (RV08).

this photo goes up there as one of the oddest.... I KNOW it's the angle but what the hell is going on with her neck and where is her head? AND look at how ROUND she is.... LOL oh this is an odd one alright.

That is called AN ID SHOT. You can Id the seal by the shark bite scars on her head, back, a small scar on shoulder, and two white nails.
Not very pretty, but she was trying to cling on to the rock for stability as the waves were cranking over her and T12. It was going to be a 2.0 tide. RUGGED.
I just admire and love this seal from the island of Nihoa. She is a strong female, hunts with great force, splashes the surface of the water, chasing fish, crabs.
I was happy she was out of the canal and in the company of T12 Kimo Kai from Kauai. He is smaller male, she is long and big.
She snuck up on Kimo Kai, he was fast a sleep. She snorted as if to announce HER ARRIVAL and APPROVAL to join him, even if he is .... A MALE. It was cool to watch them be themselves with no jerk around to disturb them.

I know sometimes the pictures are for ID purposes... and it's not that, it's that her body just looks weird.... her neck is extended.... and her body so fat and round. Just an odd angel.
