At 0736 I found Kaiwi (RK96) at Buster Flats, Lanai Lookout. She remained all day. Gayle and I were watching as she departed at 1828.
At 0859 I found RM38 on the water front rocks of Seal Rock Inlet, on Rabbit Island. He would cruise the RI beach front in the afternoon, stopping to check PO2, from the water line, twice, but never hauled out.
At 0919 PO2 hauled out to the left end of the beach on RI. I was still unable to confirm a sex.
At 1432 Ocean Safety called with the report of an animal just hauling out to the east end of Sandy Beach. When I arrived the animal was gone. The lifeguard advised that it had hauled out just briefly, and the adoring hordes cause the quick departure. I relocated to the Blowhole Lookout and got a quick glimpse of an animal , but did not see it again.
Whether its connected or not we’ll never know, but at 1718 I got a call from Hanauma Bay reporting an animal just hauling out. I arrived at 1725, to find that the animal was gone. Lifeguards said it hauled out just briefly at the east end, then swam the beach front, and exited the cable channel.
Tracy called at 0759 this morning advising that NOAA personnel where heading to Ka’ena Point following the report of Ka’ena (RO40) with a hook. Though they found RW02 & RK36 at the point, and RIP (RR70) at the 20 minute mark on the Waianae side trail, they did not see Ka’ena. The hunt will continue tomorrow. He is said to have a circle hook at the right corner of his mouth.
Team Billand reported U’ilani (RN36) at the Reef Runway, at 0930.
At 1100 they found Kolohe (RW22) At Guard Rails.
Thomas Sperandeo sent photos of an U/F at Sunset Beach today. He thought it was the same animal from yesterday. The photos confirm a female. An early evening talk with Dana advised that Jeanne Martinson had confirmed the animal as Right Spot (R016) this morning.
