Doing Seal work has many rewards..we get to spend time with our beloved mammals. But, we also have lots of time seeing Humans, going beyond all our signs, arrows, sleeping seal sign, ropes and our pleas...Do not go in front of seal, do not talk to the seal, he dont understand English..Period!! Do not walk UP TO THE SEAL, NO touch!! No feed!! Seven days a week, rain, thunder, lighting, high winds, large groups of humans on three day week ends..visiting barking dogs, loose dogs. And then there are folks that are convinced..THEY ARE THE SEAL WHISPERER and go inches of the sleeping seal. No matter how much we yell, one MUST GO SEE THE SEAL UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL. We always worry, ONE DAY, A SEAL WILL BITE THESE DUMMIES!! And we all know what happens after that...Get that #@!*#! seal off that beach..its a wild beast!! So..that is why we do this..to prevent anyone from getting BIT.
Our seals deserve to sleep where they feel comfortable, safe, to get the much needed rest.
I dont know what else to do folks..we are trying so fricken hard, to educate, to make humans understand, these seals need respect and a space on shore for rest."SHARE THE BEACH, THE SEALS ARE WILLING, WHY CANT HUMANS DO THE SAME?" A simple task, walk around the seal please...
It is horrible to stand there witnessing humans bothering our seals. It hurts our souls to see the seals disturbed!! They are innocent fossils, living in a modern world, I always say.
R.I. same thing..humans MUST LAND ON that island...FOR WHAT??? Beaches all over this Island of Oahu, yet, Rabbit Island draws exploring idiots out there.Signs posted, NAH, humans cant read or obey simple rules...interfering with a monk seals slumber. Tsk. Tsk.
And if you look at yesterdays Law Breaking Citizen's shirt...well, look for yourself..can you see what his shirt is displaying???? Look good.
No seal can rest comfortably without a human in its face, a human yelling at the seal for a neat shot for YOUTUBE. Sad, very sad.
Well, its almost day light, can't wait to meet all the folks who cant read signs. Who really dont understand anything about a monk seals life, who can not respect the zones set up daily..what are we to do????
