I will break with the usual flow of the dailies and
begin with the disgusting and sad news of yet another seal being killed. All the
evening news as well as the paper are reporting that a seal was found on Monday,
this time on the north shore of Kauai, shot in the
head . This has been confirmed by necropsy. I'm told it was an unknown, untagged
seal at this point. There will no doubt be more info becoming available
tomorrow. All of this just makes me feel sick to my stomach. No reason on earth why this is happening.... NONE.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming (if
that is possible). At 0712 I found Buster (RV08) on D#11 of his molt. He is 25%.
He cruised at Rabbit Island all day.
At 0947 RM38 hauled out of Seal Rock Inlet and
galumphed up to nearby Buster's location, followed shortly thereafter by Kolohe
(RW22). He too moved up to join the group. There was never any observed
interaction, and eventually each moved to a comfortable distants from the
others, to snooze away the rest of the day.
Gayle and I as well as Kathy had done numerous searches
on the Kaiwi Kuest today. Never finding her. About 20 minutes after my 2nd
Spitting Cave check, at 1458, posse member Terry called with those oh so
familiar words.... "She's Herrrrre !!!!" Here being Spitting Cave. Back I went,
and sure enough there was our girl on the cave side of the big rock, doing
consistent 7 minute dives (so sayeth Terry's ever so smart, Smart Phone). Kathy
advised that she had last seen Kaiwi at around 1615. Tomorrow ??????? Only Kaiwi
knows.
Team Billand checked in at 0624 with the report of
Kermit (R012), fronting #1708, White Plains. His molt continues.
At 1141 Dana called with a batch of reports. First of
all RI37 was reported in Laie once again. Confirming photos from Azlina Harun
have been recieved.
Dana also reported R5AY at Hauula. I've heard and seen
no confirmation at this writing.
Dana also reported two animals at Diamond Head, and
advised that the awesome Colleen Heyer was on the way. Colleen checked in at
1248 with the news that Irma (R010) was at the showers, and that Rocky (RH58)
was near the bottom of Beach Rd. Her usual excellent confirming photos have been
received. Something tells me I'll have Irma in my life for the next few days
out this way ?????
Minutes later, at 1507, Barbara called again with the
excited news that she had just gotten word from Sean that Makaiwi (R4DF) had
been sighted back on the Big Island, after her short trip to Oahu, to show
Barbara her fish hook. Ther was no word on the status of the hook as of
today. Oh I am so happy to hear this news.... I wanted to ask if there had been any sighting of her.... but I also knew if there was I would know. Boy that girl does travel....
Dana checked in at 1641 with the report of an U/U in
Ewa Beach. I've received no further confirmation as of this writing.
